Three and a Half Hours of Chet Atkins at a Bargain Price!

I'm still a bit confused as to the background on this reissue label: Real Gone Music. The UK website (Music Melon) is under re-construction. The Realgonemusic website doesn't seem to have any connection to this label. (At least it did not list any of the "8 Classic Albums" releases at that site.) All I CAN tell you is that this is amazing music at an amazing price.There are 2 complete albums on each of the 4 CDs housed in a plastic jewel case. There are no liner notes, no booklet, just three-and-a-half hours of Chet Atkins and his guitar. (There is only one vocal.) this collection is comprised of Atkins' first eight studio albums--90 songs in all.Disc One (40:08)"Chet Atkins Gallopin' Guitar" (1952)1. Third Man Theme2. Meet Mr. CallaghanWhether playing solo, with a small Nashville ensembe, or playing in front of an orchestra (as on much of "In Hollywood"), Chet Atkins is an inspired guitarist. His picking style is immediately recognizable and a joy to hear on these crisp-sounding rereleases. (It doesn't say, but I'm guessing these are the original monoraul recordings.) It's a disappointment that there is no accompanying booklet, but there is no end to the enjoyment you will get from listening to these early recordings over and over again. Snatch this up while it's still available. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Don't Pass This By

This is an absolutely wonderful collection of eight of Chet's earlier albums. The fidelity and clarity is outstanding. The selection of songs is great. And, Chet is (as always) at his best. An absolutely "don't miss" collections. And, if you like Chet and Les Paul, get their "Lester and Chester" album; I think the only one they made together.

Nearly Perfect

Discs 2, 3 & 4 get an A+ rating (one slight exception below on "Chet Atkins in Hollywood"). All tracks are crystal clear, I am sure taken from the Bear Family box.Disc 1 is slightly disappointing in that the track listing on the two 10" records represented "ain't quite right". A couple of previously unreleased recordings from the time period show up on there, and one track from the second 10" is omitted ("12th Street Rag"). But at least Real Gone Music did a better job than they did on Duane Eddy box set where Disc 1 is kind of a mish-mash.Not all of Chet's albums are in there inclusively. A couple were omitted, then there is a slight leap to "...in Hollywood" which as it should be is the only album in stereo. The "Hollywood" LP is not Chet's original but rather the redo of his tracks over the orchestra that he did years later because he didn't really like the original. It would have been a nice touch to have the original in this box set. No liner notes at all, but all and all a very nice set for the price.
