5Chris Removed the Hat, but not the Country!
By Austin Dalyai
In a Country Music world filled with pop, rock, and hip hop, it's refreshing to know that because of Singers like Chris Young, Country still has some Country. Those of you familiar with Chris' previous release, will not be suprised one bit by this one. If you haven't heard this guy before, and you're a lover of Country singers who have the right to write and sing songs about the Country Life, than you need to check this out. The first single from theis CD is all over the radio right now, and for a good reason. The song "Tomorrow" is a very acurate representation of the other nine songs on this CD. Not only are we treated with the fiddle and steel that we love in Country music, there are a ton of supurb song writing efforts on this album that will keep it on the charts for some time, and will most likely give us another 2 or 3 huge singles. Chris also displays a voice on here that keeps him in good company with his contemporaries. So if your a fan of modern Country, there is no way you're not going to like this CD. You may as wel just go buy it.Way to go Chris!

5Awesome Country Music
By wdebit
This CD is awesome. Chris Young is really coming in to his own. The big boys of country had better move over 'cause Chris is on his way to the top. I have watched him rise since his Nashville Star victory and he just gets better with each release. This entire CD leaves you wanting more. We all know how great "Tomorrow" is and the rest of the CD does not disappoint. My favorite is "She's Got This Thing About Her". If you love the ballads you'll love this collection of songs and "Save Water, Drink Beer" is a great summer fun song. Enjoy!

4Young's Alluring "Neon"
By Timothy Yap
Prime Cuts: She's Got This Thing About Her, Tomorrow, FlashlightOn his third album "Neon," Young journeys with us through the arc of relationships, the tremulous as well as the blissful moments. Though he does not bring in any particular shafts of fresh insights, there is something alluring about these 10 cuts that make one return to them again and again. Perhaps it's because of Young's palpable tenor that exudes a believable blue-collared sensitivity ingrained in a deep seated maturity that makes his delivery engaging. And it could even be the fact that most of these songs sell themselves with their irresistible hooks and their true-to-life sentimentality without giving in to maudlin sappiness. So, such strengths are to be credited to Young who had a hand in honing 7 out of the 10 cuts with Nashville best writers such as Ben Hayslip, Rhett Atkins, Ashley Gorley, Brett Jones, Tim Nichols, Kent Blazy and Frank Myers. Further, having a seasoned producer James Stroud on board is a definite plus. Stroud who has had helmed hit records for Aaron Lewis, Lorrie Morgan, Tim McGraw, Clint Black and John Anderson certainly knows how to imbued this record with a fresh commercial country sound that astride between 70s pop and traditional country.Truth be told, the selling point of this disc is in the ballads. RCA Nashville is like-minded when they have opted to showcase "Tomorrow" as the lead single. In his conversational delivery backed by a sympathy ensemble of mournful steel, guitar and piano, "Tomorrow" details the agony of tearing one away from a deteriorating relationship. Young croons "Tonight I'm gonna love you like there's no tomorrow," despite the fact that he and his beloved are "like fire and gasoline / I'm no good for you / You're no good for me / We only bring each other tears and sorrow." Young strikes another sentimental chord with "Flashlight." "Flashlight" looks back with nostalgia on the nights Young used to work with his dad on the car by flashlight. The way Young says, "Thanks old man" at the close of the song is enough to drive us over the edge to Tearsville. Another superb slice of the heart comes at the tail end of the album "She's Got This Thing." Romance never sounds sweeter when a guy struggles for words to vocalize what is in the heart.Young shows that he has enough traditional country in his bones to tackle a traditional stone cold country in the title cut "Neon." Evoking the emotional heftiness Vern Gosdin used to invest in his songs, "Neon" is emotional packed with fiddles, steel, and Young's twangy best. "Old Love Feels New," a co-write between Young, Tim Nichols and Brett Jones, is a delightful ballad finding a love struck Young getting relational tips from his granddaddy. Nevertheless, Young does know how to kick up his heels for some uptempo fun too. Tailored made as a future country radio darling, "I Can Take It from There" is so hooky that will have us hooked to its infectious melody in no time. Not every track here is gem material: the downright silly "Save Water, Drink Beer" is something you would expect from Big and Rich. It's just a shallow piece of lyrical nonsense accompanied by a big splash of noise. "Lost" and "You" are by no means ropey but they are just forgettable pop-country fluffs without much grit or depth. "Neon," on the whole, is by no means a cornerstone life changing banging album but it is definitely one that has enough songs with enough heart appeal for us to return again and again.
