Product Description
Nick Lowe has mined the various strains of American popular music, purposefully ignoring the lines demarking separate genres. Among the most prevalent influences on his style has been country music. On Lowe Country 13 artists--most of them up-and-coming and/or left-of-center-interpret songs from Lowe's 4½-decade career. These artists are the leading lights of a new generation who use classic country music as a springboard for their unique musical explorations. In these new, never before released tunes, they vividly display Lowe's trademarks: catchy melodies; clever word play and wit; a sense of fun and musical adventure; and the appropriate delivery of a lyric, whether it be outlandish or heartbreaking.

By Steven I. Ramm
A gathering of young Americana artists "cover" Lowe's hits and lesser known songs.I just returned from the Americana Music Conference in Nashville where I had the chance to see (and hear) some of the songs on this new tribute album performed live by some of the artists on this CD. (The performance also aired on Sirrus/XM). Listening to this CD brought back those performances (by Caitlin Rose, Robert Ellis and Collin Gilmore - Jimmie Dale Gilmore's singer/songwriter son - all of who I discovered at the AMC. The fourth person on the concert was the superb singer/violinist Amanda Shires, who I've loved for year (and highly recommend her CD.)The 13 tracks - by 13 artists - cover British rock star Nick Lowe (whose big hits were "Cruel To Be Kind" and "(What's So Funny `Bout) Peace Love and Understanding", neither of which gets covered here) in songs written between 1972 and 2001. The only artists I was familiar with were Lori McKenna, Hayes Carll and Ron Sexsmith. I do wish the packaging had more info about artists like Erin Enderlin, The Unstable Boxer and Griffin House (whose track - "Cracked Up" - sounds like it was recorded in an echo chamber). All the songs are Lowe solo comps except "When I Write The Book" (cowrite with fellow Britisher Dave Edmunds and two others) and "(I'm Gonna Start) Living Again if it Kills me", where Lowe and Edmunds partnered with Lowe's then-wife Carlene Carter. The most familiar titled on this dis is probably "All Men Are Liars", for which Robert Ellis gives a great performance. The 42-minute CD was recorded in both Texas and Nashville and proceeds from the sale will benefit both the Nashville Rising flood relief fund and The Central Texas Wildlife Fund.Though Lowe was British he was fascinated by American Country music. The songs and the performances on this highly entertaining disc show that the new generation of "Americana" and "roots music" performances are making sure Lowe's songs continue to be heard.I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.Steve Ramm"Anything Phonographic"

By James M. Yasser
This does not do justice to the great Nick Lowe. The song selection is strange, omitting some of his best work. Does not warrant inclusion in the collection of Nick Lowe fans.

By I. Gomm
Why didn't Gary Burnette include Kelsey Harmon's version of 'Cruel To Be Kind', recorded for but left off this album. A definite mistake methinks!!
